August’s Crown

August arrives in a golden haze,
Wreathed in the fire of sun-struck days,
Fields gone tawny, skies wide and bold,
Harvest whispering stories of gold.

She walks with sunflowers tall and bright,
Their faces turned to catch the light,
Cicadas sing in midday heat,
While ripened fruit grows rich and sweet.

The lake is warm, the evenings long,
Each dusk a hush, each breeze a song,
Children's laughter skips on air,
As stars awake with tender care.

August is the summer’s queen,
Her robe of green now edged with sheen,
A gentle pause, a deep-held breath,
Between wild birth and autumn’s death.

So raise a glass to sun and shade,
To golden hours that softly fade,
For August, bold and bittersweet,
Makes summer’s song feel whole—complete.
